Supported Platforms

This topic lists the supported Windows, Mac and Unix/Linux platforms on which you can install the following ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) components:

  • Windows Agent

  • Unix/Linux Agent

  • Mac Agent

  • Application Server

  • Web Console

  • Database Server

For details about the minimum system requirements for each ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) component, see System Requirements for ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Components.

From version 7.13.0, Windows 7 is no longer supported.

7.12.0 was the last version to support:
SQL Server 2012
Win 32-bit Agent
Win 8.1
Win Server 2012 (not R2)
Debian 9

From version 7.13.1, new 32-bit versions are not supported for Windows Agents and Windows Auto Updater.

Version 7.13.0 and up can be deployed only on SQL Servers that support partitions. You can upgrade to 7.13 (or later) only if your original deployment was installed as partitioned. If your system was installed not as partitioned, a migration will need to be performed. Contact Support to get help with it.

Windows Agent

You can deploy ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Agents on the following Microsoft Windows operating systems:

  • Windows 11 23H2

  • Windows 11 22H2

  • Windows 11 21H2

  • Windows 10 22H2 (19045)

  • Windows 10 21H2 (19044)

  • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit only)

  • Windows Server 2019 (64-bit only)

  • Windows Server 2022 (64-bit only)

From version 7.15.1, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 upgraded to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2022

Website Categorization

Website Categorization module can be installed only on Window Server 2016/2019/2022 64 bit. (See Installing the Website Categorization Module.)

Unix/Linux Agent

You can deploy ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Agents on the following Unix/Linux-based operating systems:

  • RHEL/CentOS 9.x

  • RHEL/CentOS 8.x

  • RHEL/CentOS 7.x

  • Oracle Linux 8.x

  • Oracle Linux 7.x

  • SLES SuSE 15.x 32 &RHEL/CentOS 64 bit

  • SLES SuSE 12 i386/x86_64

  • Ubuntu 22.04 LTS i386/x86_64

  • Ubuntu 20.04 LTS i386/x86_64

  • Ubuntu 18.04 LTS i386/x86_64

  • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS i386/x86_64

  • Debian 10 32-bit/64-bit

  • Debian 11

Mac Agent

The following versions are supported for deploying ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Agents on a Mac-based desktop, laptop, or server:

  • macOS Sonoma (macOS 14)

    When upgrading from a version older than 7.15.1 to 7.15.1 or higher, you must do the following:
    1. Uninstall the Mac Agent.
    2. Remove the current configuration profile.
    3. Upload the new IT View Configuration Profile file.
    4. Install the new Mac Agent.

  • macOS Ventura (macOS 13)

  • macOS Monterey (macOS 12)

  • MacOS machine running with minimum supported M1 and higher is supported

From version 7.15.2, Native support for M-series processors (ARM architecture) on Mac Agentswas added. Rosetta installation is no longer required.

Versions previous to 7.15.2, still require Rosetta (emulation) installation. From 7.13.3, Rosetta (emulation) can be installed automatically (if it does not exist) based on a new flag in the preinstall script.

macOS Catalina is not supported for version 7.14.1 and higher.

Supporting Earlier macOS Versions

  • macOS Sierra 10.12 supported from ObserveIT 7.9.x on best effort only
  • macOS High Sierra 10.13 supported from ObserveIT 7.10.x on best effort only
  • macOS Yosemite 10.10 and macOS El Capitan 10.11 supported ONLY for ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Agents up to 7.6.2 on best effort.

Application Server

The ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Application Server is implemented as an ASP.NET Web application that runs on Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 8.0 or higher. You can deploy the ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Application Server on the following Microsoft Windows-based operating systems. It is recommended that you always use the latest Service Pack for your operating system.

  • Windows Server 2022 (64-bit only)

  • Windows Server 2019 (64-bit only)

  • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit only)

Web Console

The ITM On-Prem Web Console is implemented as an ASP.NET Web application that runs on Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). You can deploy the ITM On-Prem Web Console on the following Microsoft Windows-based operating systems. It is recommended that you always use the latest Service Pack for your operating system.

  • Windows Server 2022 (64-bit only)

  • Windows Server 2019 (64-bit only)

  • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit only)

Database Server

The ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Database Server requires one of the following SQL Server versions with the latest Service Pack:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2022

    From version 7.15.1, Microsoft SQL server 2012 Native client upgraded to OLE adapter that includes:

    • Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server

    • Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2019

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2017

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (Enterprise only)

ODBC driver

  • msodbcsql version 17.10.4.1 version

OLEDB driver

  • msoledbsql version18.6.6

Note the following:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is not supported from version 7.5 and up.

  • SQL Server Express edition is not supported. It is recommended that you use a regular full-featured version of SQL Server, since the SQL Server Express edition has database size limitations and other restrictions that make it unsuitable for production environments.

  • If planning to use data encryption, plan for CPU overhead.

  • If you plan to use the archiving feature of ObserveIT, make sure that you have available at least twice the disk space expected for the archived data.

Software Development Frameworks

Server side components such as the Application Server and Web Console use the following software development frameworks:

  • Node .js 20.3.0

  • . NET Core 6.0.419

Backward Compatibility - Minimum Supported Versions and Upgrade Requirements

Most features, functions, and capabilities of ObserveIT 7.15.3 are compatible with earlier versions of the ITM On-Prem (ObserveIT) Agent. However, you should avoid using Agents that have an earlier version than the server-side components. To maintain full feature compatibility, it is highly recommended that you upgrade your Agents to the most current version of the product.

ObserveIT 7.12.0 is the minimum supported version that can be upgraded to 7.15.3.

From ObserveIT 7.10, support is on best effort.

If you have an earlier version that is not supported, first upgrade to the minimum supported version, and then upgrade to the latest version.

Agents (Windows or Unix)

ObserveIT 7.12.0 is the minimum supported version for Agents to be upgraded to 7.15.3 (backward compatibility of Agents).

If you have an earlier version that is not supported, uninstall it, and then install the latest version.
